The 179 model is Feurich’s best-selling grand piano. It is loved around the world for ts amazing tone and playability. The piano has been continually developed and improved over the last 11 years, leading to precision-engineered components and a design that is unbeatable at this price.
Feurich was founded in 1851 and became the first German piano manufacturer to use under-damper actions in upright pianos, long before its rivals. Wendl & Lung have been working with Feurich since 2010, and the partnership's motto is "Tradition & Innovation". Unlike other manufacturers, all components of the piano action are designed and assembled personally by Feurich, with their experts individually monitoring each other during the entire process.
Bonners hold stock of a wide range of Feurich Upright and Grand Pianos in our piano showrooms. We have piano shops in Reigate Surrey, Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire, and Eastbourne East Sussex. Soundboard
The size of the soundboard on the 179 model is equivalent to that of a grand piano 2 metres in length. This is due to an extra-wide angle down the left side of the piano, maximising the surface area of the soundboard and resulting in a larger sound, particularly in the bass register. The soundboard itself is made of the highest quality spruce wood, and has also been developed so that it is stable and resistant to climate changes over a long period of time.
Frame Design
The 179 model features a redesigned, light frame design. This is to allow less sound absorption, which is particularly noticeable in the treble register, generating brilliance and a clear sound. The bar along the front is completely missing, which is a nice feature allowing the player to view the hammers moving while playing. The multi-laminate pin block is climate resistant, adding durability. Wide angles allow more string length than you would usually see in a piano of this size, as the strings virtually touch the wooden frame. Every inch of the piano has been made use of in order to optimise the sound quality.
Duplex Scaling
The strings on this model use duplex scaling, which means the strings resonate sympathetically with each note struck, adding brilliance and sparkle in the treble regions.
Strings
The strings for this model were designed by Stephen Paulello, and are rust free! They are nickel plated, creating a stable and pure tone for many years to come.
Key Action
The special Feurich key action sets this piano apart from other pianos of its size. No plastic is used in any part of the action, as this is not elastic enough to provide the feel and touch response Feurich are seeking. There is a low amount of lead weight used inside the key itself, resulting in a very low inertia when the key is struck. This gives a great dynamic range, including effortless pianissimo. The dampening wire is entirely perpendicular; around this is the precision-engineered space for felt. This means there is no wobbling of the key or friction involved at all, making the instrument very responsive and easy to play. The key itself is made from solid timber, making it very light.
