Is It Safe To Buy A Reconditioned Kawai Piano?
Kawai pianos have been known as the industry-leading choice of piano teachers and students for decades. Whilst there have been some small changes to the design of the instruments over the years, the heart of these pianos remains the same. Due to the fact that they were originally manufactured to such a high standard in the factory, and parts for all models are readily available, Kawai's upright pianos can be completely reconditioned to their original playing standard. Some would argue that an older instrument has had time to mature and the tone is superior to some newer models.
What Makes These Pianos So Good?
With such a wide choice of reconditioned pianos on the market, it can be confusing as to how they differ from each other, and what level of work has been done to bring them back to a standard which will make them a good investment for your family and the future.
These pianos have been reconditioned to the very highest standard possible, to ensure that you are buying a piano that will last for many years.
Cabinet
When spending a significant amount of money on a piano, our customers expect an instrument that they can be proud of. That is why these "reconditioned as new" pianos have been stripped down and completely resprayed to look 'as new'. The polished ebony finish of this piano is beautiful and can be seen in one of our piano showrooms.
Soundboard
A piano soundboard is what gives the piano its voice. You can see it if you take a look at the back of the instrument. Soundboards are made of spruce, which is a light-in-colour wood. Over time, older soundboards tend to discolour, which is why craftsmen have meticulously sanded off the old varnish and revived and restored the soundboard's original colour. So, even if you look at the back of this piano - it almost looks new!
Replacement White Key Covers
No one wants a piano with old-looking discoloured yellow-ish keys. All the white keytops & fronts on this piano have been replaced with new brilliant white ones to make the piano look and feel like a new instrument.
Full Regulation Of The Action & Moving Parts
The hammer mechanism of a piano must be allowed to move freely in order to retain fast repetition of notes. Centre pins are metal parts within the hammer action which are replaced as part of the reconditioning process to ensure that the hammers can strike the strings and return to their original position with ease.
As well as centre pin replacement, bushings and felts are replaced to give your reconditioned Kawai piano the longevity you would expect of a premium instrument.
Other moving parts of the action are serviced and regulated to ensure they are performing to their optimum level that will delight pianists of all standards - whether a complete beginner or Grade 8, Diploma level or above.
Pedals & Hinges
The brass pedals & visible hinges are polished and revived to look new.
Slow-Fall Mechanism
Modern Kawai pianos are equipped with a slow-fall mechanism on the key-lid for safety, and also to prevent it from being slammed shut. Our 'Reconditioned As New' Kawai upright pianos have been upgraded to include a brand new slow-fall mechanism that is discreet and looks like it's always been there. In fact, some would argue that it adds a nice little extra brass detail to the instrument!
Additional Top Lid Prop
The top of a piano is not just for displaying photographs or a nice lamp! The top lid of the Yamaha U1 and U3 models is divided in the middle so that the font section can be opened to allow the true voice of the piano to be heard. Another upgrade to the original design (in addition to the slow-fall mechanism) is the inclusion of a top-lid centre-prop. This allows the lid to be half-opened so it doesn't need to be folded back flat on itself - you can still hear the true voice of the piano without taking everything off the top of the piano!
